Tina Fey, Jerry Seinfeld Share Split Cover of The Hollywood Reporter's Emmys Issue (Poll)
Two TV legends grace the cover of The Hollywood Reporter magazine this week.
Jerry Seinfeld and Tina Fey each get their own covers for the Sept. 27 issue, appropriately titled Emmy Icons, which hits stands Wednesday.
During the run of his 1990-98 NBC comedy Seinfeld, the star/creator/executive producer/writer was nominated for numerous Emmys, including a win for best comedy series in 1993.
In the issue, he admits that the win was extremely satisfying. "It was very validating," he says. "I never cared if we won anything again -- and we never did, and that was fine."
Fey, whose 30 Rock is a three-time best comedy series winner (the show, which ended its seven-season run in January, will vie for the award one final time at Sunday's Primetime Emmy Awards), recollects that there was little expectation the NBC comedy would win in its first time at the big show back in 2007.
"The first year, we were such a long shot that we were seated up in the back in the cable-reality section," says Fey. "Then we won best comedy. Alec [Baldwin] was so sure we weren't going to win, he was in the bathroom."
In addition to Seinfeld and Fey, THR's annual Emmy Icons issue features an exclusive photo portfolio with such industry legends as Bryan Cranston, Sheila Nevins, Matthew Weiner, John Wells, the Osbournes, Mitchell Hurwitz and Hank Azaria.
Also in the 23 pages of special coverage are tips on what to wear to Sunday's ceremony, a runway-to-red-carpet guide, the six actresses whom designers are clamoring to dress, and a complete guide to four days of Emmy parties.
Plus, host Neil Patrick Harris reveals his plans for the show and shares his secrets for a killer performance.
"My plan is to not try to out-trick myself," he says of his overall hope for Emmy night. "I just want it to be a classy event; like two-fingers-of-neat-scotch, rather than Tiki-drink-with-an-umbrella classy. That's all any of us really wants out of the Emmy experience. And a few really nice gifting suites."
