'Jersey Shore's' DJ Pauly D on 50 Cent Collaboration, MTV Spinoff (Video)
The DJ tells THR about his debut project with the rapper’s G-Note imprint, which focuses on pop, dance and r&b artists.
With the future of Jersey Shore uncertain beyond the latest season, MTV’s resident DJ has wasted no time throwing his musical career into overdrive.
After months of discussions, Paul “DJ Pauly D” Delvecchio made it official with 50 Cent’s G-Note imprint in December, while completing his duties as the resident DJ at the Palms in Las Vegas and hitting the road for select dates of Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour. Recently, Pauly D signed on for another year long Las Vegas residency, this time with the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
The blowout-coiffed DJ stopped by The Hollywood Reporter’s Cover Lounge to dish on the season 5 premiere of MTV’s hit reality show, but spoke openly about what fans can expect from his first project with G-Unit.
“Right now I'm working on my album with 50 Cent,” he said. “Really excited about that because that’s my passion. Music is where my heart’s at. So, I’m gonna do some producing [and] come up with a compilation album with 50.”
“I’ve always looked up to 50 my whole entire life,” he continued. “He’s always been a mentor to me, ‘cause I’ve been DJing and playing his music my whole entire life. So, the fact that we clicked when we met was amazing.”
Did we forget to mention that he also landed (and completed filming on) an MTV spinoff of his own?
“[I’m] really excited to show the world another side of me outside the Shore,” he explained. “It’s kind of like my life as a DJ on the road, and you get to meet some of my friends that I grew up with in Rhode Island and some of the crazy adventures we get into.”
Jersey Shore premieres Thursday, Jan. 5 at 10 p.m. on MTV. For more on what Pauly and his housemates had to say about the coming season, click here.
