After wrapping his nine-year-run on "Law & Order," Jesse L. Martin is returning to Broadway.

Martin is in negotiations to star in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," a new Broadway-aimed production based on the 1967 movie. In the play, from Jeffrey Finn Prods., Martin will play John Wade Prentice, the role played in the film by Sidney Poitier.

Kenny Leon ("A Raisin in the Sun") is attached to direct the play, which is expected to begin rehearsals in August.

Yet to be cast are the roles of the white parents Matt and Christina Drayton, whose daughter brings home Prentice, her black fiance.

A bevy of A-listers -- including Michael Douglas, Diane Keaton and Sigourney Weaver -- have been bandied about for the roles of the parents played in the film by Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy.

Martin, who rose to prominence with his role on the original Broadway production of "Rent," is repped by Endeavor and McGowan Management.
