Jimmy Kimmel Mocks 'Space Jam 2' Outrage: "There Are Important Things Going On, This Is What You're Upset About?"
"[It] makes sense. LeBron's a pretty good actor — he was in the new movie 'Trainwreck,' every time he gets fouled he acts like a baby biting into a lemon for the first time — he knows what he's doing," Kimmel joked.
Jimmy Kimmel mocked fans' outrage over the rumors that LeBron James would be involved in a Space Jam sequel or reboot on Thursday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Speculation began when the NBA superstar and his company SpringHill Entertainment signed a deal with Warner Bros. Entertainment spanning all areas of content creation. Since Warner Bros. released Space Jam starring Michael Jordan in 1996, the idea of a follow-up began to circulate online.
"[It] makes sense, LeBron's a pretty good actor — he was in the new movie Trainwreck, every time he gets fouled he acts like a baby biting into a lemon for the first time — he knows what he's doing," Kimmel joked, adding that the actor could remake a slew of '90s films like Thelma and Louise, From Dusk Till Dawn, Jumanji, The Big Lebowski and James and the Giant Peach.
After an "audience member" parroted the online outrage, lamenting, "Typical Hollywood, ruining my childhood again! ... How can they make another Space Jam movie? It was perfect!" Kimmel asked, "Are you sure it was perfect, or were you just 5 years old when you saw it? ... I get it that you liked the movie but really, there are a lot of important things going on in the world — this is what you're upset about?"
To which the angry fan responded: "Because the real world scares me, and this is all I have."
