Stars including Ellen Pompeo, Mena Suvari, Mindy Kaling, Olivia Munn and Whitney Cummings attended to support the organization that is dedicated to ensuring that all children in America have equal access to health care and a quality education. A special edition duffle was created for the exclusive event and all of the proceeds from the handbags sold were donated to the CDF.
Abrams' wife, Katie McGrath who has been a long time board member of the organization helped facilitate the purse party.
When asked what she always keeps in her handbag she replied, "My husband's phone."
Munn, who's upcoming film Magic Mike is in theaters on June 29 was pleased to be taking part in a good cause.
"At the very minimum, every child deserves the right to a great education," Munn told The Hollywood Reporter.
It wasn't just the ladies who stepped out for the evening. Anton Yelchin from Abrams' upcoming Star Trek film was spotted on the red carpet along with Jeremy Renner, Josh Duhamel, and James Marsden.
The stars noshed on bite-sized chicken and waffles while perusing the vibrantly colored collection of handbags that were provided to benefit the organization.
"I’ve always had a passion for justice and justice for the children and justice for the poor," said Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the CDF. "I’m just so grateful for the leadership of Katie and J.J. and what they’ve been doing in trying to educate people about the need to change the odds while they are trying to beat the odds."
