The annual awards encourage the creation of dimensional female media images and equality between the genders

Joan Rivers, Scandal executive producer Shonda Rhimes, and actors Emma and Julia Roberts are among the nominees for the 16th Women's Image Network (WIN) Awards, which honor females in film and television for exceptional accomplishment.

Rivers is posthumously nominated for best actress in a comedy series for her performance in the "September Issue" episode of Fashion Police (daughter Melissa Rivers was co-nominated with Lisa Bacon for producing the same episode).

Rhimes and Betsy Beers are nominated for producing the Scandal episode "Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner." The aunt and niece duo Emma and Julia Roberts are competing in the same category for best actress in a made-for-TV movie/miniseries.  Emma is nominated for her role in American Horror Story: Coven and Julia for HBO's The Normal Heart.

Founded in 1993 by Phyllis Stuart, the Women's Image Network is a charity that collaborates with entertainment-industry businesses to recognize deserving media and individuals who promote gender parity. It aims to encourage respect for women, create dimensional female media images and support social and economic equality between genders.
