"La Bare"

The film festival's 20th anniversary slate touts the "True Blood" star's directorial debut, the latest from animator Bill Plympton and 41 premieres.

Following the announcement of its 2014 feature film lineup, the Slamdance Film Festival has unveiled a second wave of films. The Special Screenings, “Beyond” and shorts programs round out the slate for the fest's 20th anniversary year, set for Jan. 17 - 23 in Park City, Utah.

Features in this year's Special Screenings category include the World Premiere of La Bare, the directorial debut of Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello that looks back the history of Dallas' famed male strip club, and the U.S. premiere of indie animator Bill Plympton’s Cheatin', which successfully crowdfunded itself to completion in February. In honor of the festival's roots, Slamdance will also debut DIY, a documentary on no-budget filmmaking featuring interviews with Christopher Nolan, Rian Johnson, Marc Forster, Nina Menkes, Benh Zeitlin and Oren Peli.

"We're excited to present these innovative feature and short films as part of the 20th Festival. They involve many of our alumni who've given Slamdance its identity,” Peter Baxter, Slamdance president and co-founder, told THR.

The expanded short film programs includes 62 American and international productions in the categories of Narrative, Documentary, Animation, Anarchy and Experimental, a new addition to the programming. Jury awards are presented to short films in all categories and all films are eligible for the Spirit of Slamdance Award judged by the filmmakers themselves.
