Joey Del Valle, Longtime NBC Photographer, Dies at 72
The brother of actor Erik Estrada, he worked for the network for three decades.
Joey Del Valle, an NBC staff photographer for some 30 years and the brother of actor Erik Estrada, has died. He was 72.
Del Valle died Dec. 19 in Los Angeles after a long illness, publicist Charlie Barrett announced.
Del Valle photographed all the Bob Hope NBC specials over the years and handled coverage assignments for network shows including Seinfeld, Days of Our Lives, Saved by the Bell, The Golden Girls, The Tonight Show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and many others.
Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Del Valle was raised in New York's Spanish Harlem neighborhood. He worked as a fashion and advertising photographer before joining NBC.
Estrada, of course, starred as Frank "Ponch" Poncherello on the 1977-83 NBC series CHiPs.
Del Valle also is survived by his life partner Judy Horikawa, children Jon Paul and Erika and sister Carmen.
