John Malkovich has joined Mark Wahlberg in Deepwater Horizon, the oil-rig disaster drama that Peter Berg is directing for Lionsgate.
The cast already features a mix of vets such as Kurt Russell and up-and-comers such as The Maze Runner actor Dylan O’Brien and Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez.
The movie tells of Deepwater Horizon, the infamous British Petroleum oil rig that caught fire and exploded on April 20, 2010, while drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, killing 11 crewmembers and resulting in the largest offshore oil spill in United States history.
Wahlberg is starring as an electrician on the rig. Malkovich will play a stubborn BP representative who underestimates the danger of the work being done.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing.
Malkovich just wrapped Demolition, the latest drama from Jean-Marc Vallee starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts.
He is repped by Principato-Young Entertainment and Felker Toczek.
