John Malkovich Launches New Clothing Line
The actor says his clothing line is named after a term he read in a yet-untitled Italian novel.
There is no shortage of celebrity designers -- Lindsay Lohan with her 6126 Collection or Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's high-end line the Row -- but Technobohemian, designed by actor John Malkovich, is, like its creator, a different beast.
He has been sketching designs almost as long as he has been treading the boards, and it shows.
Old Europe in quality -- the materials, except for some Japanese-import denim, come from Italy, where the clothes are made -- Technobohemian strives for a cultivated casual look with printed button-down shirts, beautifully tailored jackets and elegant woven ties and cravats.
Like their creator, the clothes are classy and distinct if slightly odd.
"I am inspired by the appearance of a bohemian of the new millennium," says Malkovich, whose designs can be found stateside at Blue Tree in New York, the Webster Miami, Church in West Hollywood and Lawrence Covell in Denver. "I thought it was necessary to update the figure of the bohemian but not in the traditional way. It was necessary to make it cosmopolitan, present and fully engaged in the technological world we live in today."
