John Oliver to host WGA East awards show

'Daily Show' correspondent also up for guild honor

"The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" correspondent John Oliver has been selected as the host of the 61st annual WGA East awards show in New York.

Saturday's bicoastal WGA ceremony will include shows in Los Angeles, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel, and in New York, at the Hudson Theatre in the Millennium Broadway Hotel.

The Emmy-nominated Oliver has been a regular on "The Daily Show" since 2006. He's up for a WGA Award this year for comedy/variety series as part of the "Daily Show's" writing staff.

The British writer-performer will be introducing presenters such as Sam Waterston, Jack McBrayer, Judah Friedlander, Susie Essman, Linus Roache, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, Marshall Brickman, Gilbert Gottfried and Shari Springer Berman.

Originally a stand-up comedian, Oliver also recently wrote and starred in his own Comedy Central special, "John Oliver: Terrifying Times."
