Event co-chairs Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner joined guests Naomi Watts, Liev Schreiber, Cindy Crawford, David Schwimmer, Alice Cooper, Tori Spelling, Linda Ramone, Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd and True Blood’s Joe Manganiello, at the John Varvatos 10th Annual Stuart House Benefit on March 10.
The star-studded event was held at Varvatos' West Hollywood boutique and housed more than 1,800 attendees in support of Stuart House, a program created by the Rape Treatment Center at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center to assist sexually abused children.
“The event itself was started in our parking lot 10 years ago and now we’re shutting Melrose down for blocks,” said designer and Fashion Star mentor Varvatos.
Guests such as Affleck and Rachel Zoe -- with husband Rodger Berman and son Skylar -- enjoyed kid-friendly activities, including balloon artistry and life-size board games, live music from Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and shopping (25 percent of boutique sales were donated to Stuart House).
“If [these charities] don’t get any support from men, they will always be a little bit marginalized. A crime against fellow human beings is a crime against all of us,” said Affleck, who thanked his wife for helping him become involved with the cause. “She told me about what they had to go through after being subjected to these kinds of assaults and that really stuck with me. ”
Stuart House veteran and former event host Garner commented on Varvatos’ support over the years. “To just say I’m going to put everything I’ve got into this one organization that is so desperately needed … is incredible. ” On overseeing the internationally recognized facility, Garner said, “it’s something that nobody does better than Gail Abarbenel, of the Rape Treatment center with Stuart House.”
When The Hollywood Reporter asked Varvatos to pick his favorite part of the afternoon, he alluded to the Chrysler brand partnership and said, “Just the whole day -- it’s like a car with 12 cylinders.”
The online auction remains open to the general public on charitybuzz.com, until March 21. Featured auction items include custom made audio equipment, vacation getaways and signed memorabilia.
