This Is How Johnny Wujek's 'Girls' Cameo Happened

It all began with a mesh Jeremy Scott hoodie.

Two weeks ago, celeb-stylist slash DJ Johnny Wujek made his scripted TV debut on Lena Dunham’s Girls, playing himself at a swanky party hosted by Dill Harcourt (Corey Stoll), a member of New York’s media elite.

But as it turns out, the cameo wasn’t originally part of the episode. Dunham, who runs in Wujek’s Hollywood circle of friends along with clients Katy Perry and Kate Mara, reached out to the Detroit native after spotting a photo of Wujek in a black Jeremy Scott mesh hoodie on his Instagram feed.

"I posted a photo and then literally 10 minutes later Lena texts me and she was like, 'Are you in New York? Are you going to be here tomorrow?'" he told Pret-a-Reporter at Rebecca Minkoff and Smashbox's Coachella luncheon, where he played DJ.

Upon finding out that Wujek was, in fact in New York, Dunham asked him to film a scene, but on one condition: He had to bring the mesh hoodie.

"I get to set and literally, they’re like, 'You brought the mesh hoodie, right?'" he recalls. "And I was like, 'Yeah, I f—in' brought the mesh hoodie.' So they gave me eyeliner like I was wearing at the party and they gave me my lines and they were all about this mesh hoodie."

Wujek's dialogue with Elijah (Andrew Rannells) ended up jokingly referencing a mesh yellow top which Hannah (Dunham) wore in the first season of the HBO series — hence the crew's insistence on the hoodie.

Moral of the story? If you have an amazing outfit, definitely post it to Instagram. Because you never know.
