Joint venture allows VOD on the go

Movies, series available on PlayStation Portable

LONDON -- It might not be the obvious choice for catching up on missed episodes of "Desperate Housewives" or Premier League soccer matches, but U.K. users can now get their sports, movies and TV series fix via the Sony PlayStation Portable.

In a bid to make portable VOD content a reality, a new joint venture between Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and pay TV giant BSkyB dubbed Go!View will allow users to download content from the BBC, Disney-ABC, Sky Sports, National Geographic and Sony International Television in a range of genre packs beginning at 5 pounds ($10) per month.

Movies will be available from about 2.50 pounds ($5) per download, but will initially be available free as part of a trial.

The Go!View product is limited to the U.K., but similar products will likely be rolled out in other territories.

In January, Sony Compute Entertainment America launched a joint venture partnership with MTV offering such shows as "Beavis and Butt-head" and "Jackass" to PSP users in the U.S.
