Jon Gosselin Reacts to 'Kate Plus 8' Cancellation
TLC pulled the plug on the reality series Monday.
Former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star Jon Gosselin is glad TLC pulled the plug on its reality series that starred his children. Retitled Kate Plus 8 after his divorce from Kate Gosselin forced him off the show, the program had just launched new Season 2 episodes when it was axed on Monday.
Gosselin told Radar online that he was relieved his kids won't be on camera anymore, "I hope they can have more private family moments. I hope that this will bring more privacy to my children and that they can get the proper attention they need for any personal issues they might have in the future."
Gosselin added that the show had run its natural course, "Contracts have to end at some point. I think everything had run its course and it was time to come to an end anyways."
TLC said Monday in a statement, "TLC has decided not to renew another season of Kate Plus 8. By the end of this season, Kate Plus 8 will have hit the 150 episode mark (including Jon & Kate Plus 8); an exceptional milestone."
The final episode of Kate Plus 8 will air Sept. 12. From there, the network will check in with the reality TV star-turned-tabloid staple and her family with periodic specials.
In Oct. 2010, Gosselin attempted to protect his children from the reality TV environment by asking a judge to remove them from the show. He said Kate Plus 8 was causing their children to struggle with "emotional and/or behavioral issues," and that the kids were "desperately in need of a normal life."
He wrote in a series of tweets, "My goal for my children is for them to have a normal childhood, and gain back their much deserved privacy. This is not about money, this is about my children."
"I will not stop fighting to remove my children from television. It is not a child's job to support themselves, or a lifestyle, they need to be kids."
He admitted that he was also to blame for introducing his family to a career in reality TV, writing: "I will have to answer to my children for the rest of my life. I will have to live with this guilt the rest of my life. I am truly sorry!"
Jon & Kate Plus 8 ran for 5 seasons, Kate Plus 8 was in its second season.
