Josh Berger joins U.K. Film Council board

Berger heads Warner Bros. Entertainment U.K.

LONDON -- The U.K. Film Council board has been bolstered by the appointment of Warner Bros. Entertainment U.K. president and managing director Josh Berger.

Berger's four-year appointment was announced Thursday by the government's minister for culture, Barbara Follett.

"The industry knows that 2009 is likely to be difficult for everybody but I'm confident that we will be able to weather any challenges that arise and continue to support Britain as an important filmmaking hub on the international scene," Berger said.

Berger has headed up Warner Bros. in the U.K. since 2002, leading Warner Bros. Entertainment's business activities across the U.K. and Ireland, including theatrical, home video, television, digital and consumer products.

Added UKFC chairman Stewart Till: "He will bring a wealth of knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of big-budget film production and worldwide distribution to the role that will strengthen our board even further."
