Focus Features executive Josie Liang is joining The Solution Entertainment Group as VP acquisitions and development.
Reporting directly to the company's co-founders and partners Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel, Liang will spearhead the development of films that are produced and financed in house as well as acquisitions for international sales under The Solution banner.
At Focus, Liang worked on such films as Leigh Whannell's Insidious: Chapter 3 as well as Sinister 2. Both titles were released under Focus' genre label, Gramercy Pictures, and co-produced by Blumhouse Productions.
“Josie is admired and well-respected in the industry with a keen understanding of projects that have wide, commercial appeal for a theatrical audience," Wilson and Nestel said in a statement. "Her studio experience and established ties to cast and filmmakers make her a perfect addition to our expanding team."
Before Focus, Liang was the manager of acquisitions at FilmDistrict and previously worked at GK Films and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Founded in 2012, The Solution has four films that were recently released in the U.S.: Sony Pictures Classics’ Infinitely Polar Bear, IFC Films’ Jenny's Wedding, Saban Films’ How to Make Love Like an Englishman and Ten Thousand Saints, which made its world premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and was released by Screen Media Films.
The company's upcoming slate includes Man Down, starring Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman and Kate Mara; the boxing biopic Bleed for This, starring Miles Teller and Aaron Eckhart; the Richard Gere-starrer Oppenheimer Strategies and The Ticket with Dan Stevens, Malin Akerman and Oliver Platt.
