Judge Orders Lindsay Lohan to Rehab
Lindsay Lohan was back in court Friday and avoided being sent back to jail despite admitting that she had violated the terms of her probation by failing a drug test in September.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Superior Court Judge Elden Fox ordered the Mean Girls actress to rehab through Jan. 3. She will be subjected to random drug tests once released, leading up to a Feb. 25 court date.
Judge Fox told the actress, "I'm serious about that [date]. You're staying there past the new year and there's a reason for that."
Lohan has been a patient at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif. since being released on bail after a brief incarceration at the Los Angeles County women's jail on Sept. 24.
She could have been sentenced to 30 days in jail for each probation violation, but Fox opted for rehab after reviewing filings from rehab and court officials and a letter from Lohan, notes the Associated Press.
Lohan's legal issues stem from drug and drunken driving charges dating back to 2007.
