Julia Louis-Dreyfus Wins March Madness on Social Media

Her 'Seinfeld' post ranked highest on social media engagement during the tournament (so far).

Northwestern University may be out of the tournament, but Julia Louis-Dreyfus is still the reigning celebrity of March Madness 2017 social media.

According to social measurement and valuation platform MVPindex, the Veep star and Northwestern alum topped all celebrity mentions and engagement during the NCAA men's basketball tournament, which sees the Final Four matchups this weekend. She and husband Brad Hall had been popping up on TV screens and on social media platforms while they cheered on their 19-year-old son Charlie Hall, a 6-foot-5 walk-on forward with the Wildcats.

"It's been very exciting because we are devoted parents and we've been able to continue the helicopter parenting," the Seinfeld star had said ahead of the tournament. "We go to the games, and if we can't, we watch on set."

One of the most shared posts by Louis-Dreyfus was a selfie of her and Hall, who met as students at Northwestern. Her top post, however, was when it was announced that the team was heading to the tournament for the first time ever — a milestone she celebrated by calling back her famous Elaine dance from Seinfeld.

Fellow Northwestern alum Seth Meyers, a major Kentucky Wildcats fan, also ranked high on MVPindex's list, along with fellow Wildcat booster Ashley Judd, who typically sits in the student section. 

Country singer Tim McGraw's post about his bracket clocked in sixth on the top 25 List of celebrity social media posts. A video posted by Common placed 11th and actress Sarah Michelle Gellar's post followed shortly after at No. 13.

MVPindex analyzed data from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to rank the most mentions of celebrities and highest engagement with celebrity posts during the tournament. MVPindex uses a proprietary algorithm that ranks each star in three separate scores: reach (fans, followers, impressions), engagement (likes, comments, shares, retweets, favorites) and conversation (positive/negative mentions).
