The movie will be produced by Robert Jones, whose credits include "The Usual Suspects" via his Jonescompany production banner.
Billed as part love story, part psychological thriller, "Landing" is set in contemporary London and the wilds of Scotland and details the story of a young couple whose dull marriage is transformed when the husband is visited by strange hallucinations.
Fellowes and Jones, who first collaborated on Robert Altman's "Gosford Park" are in discussions to attach a director to the spec screenplay with an eye on a production start in Spring 2011.
Torday's debut novel "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" is currently in production.
Fellowes and Jones joined forces to acquire the movie rights to "Landing" in 2009 in a deal with Torday's agent at Jenny Brown Associates.
