The 'Mary Poppins' star and daughter Emma Walton Hamilton will develop 'The Very Fairy Princess' preschool cartoon based on their popular books series.

Oscar winner Julie Andrews and daughter Emma Walton Hamilton have pacted with Canadian animation producer Nelvana to develop a preschool TV series.

The Very Fairy Princess cartoon, based on a picture book series of the same title launched in 2010 by the legendary Mary Poppins star and her daughter, is set for a 2016 premiere. Nelvana will animate the series at its Toronto studio.

The Very Fairy Princess series will follow Geraldine, a young girl who believes she is a fairy princess, despite all evidence to the contrary.

"The books are all about celebrating individuality. We hope to encourage kids to rejoice in their own unique passions and talents, even if they're different from that of their family or friends, and Nelvana is the perfect partner to bring our beloved Very Fairy Princess to a wider audience," Andrews said in a statement Monday.

Illustrated by Christine Davenier, The Very Fairly Princess book series has eight titles, with a ninth book due out later this year.
