Julien Temple Readying City-Specific Music Documentary Series (Cannes)
The director begins shooting Rio de Janeiro-centric "Children of the Revolution" this year followed by "This Is London."
Director Julian Temple is readying a series of documentaries based around looking at cities and their music. The series kicks off with a Rio de Janeiro doc, followed by films about London and Tijuana.
Both the Rio and the London docs, named Children of the Revolution and This Is London respectively, will shoot this year.
U.K. independent production banner Film & Music Entertainment (F&ME) will produce Children of the Revolution with it set to shoot in September and October this year.
The Temple projects are being sold by Ealing Metro International.
The movie will look at the musical, social, political, cultural and technical revolutions that have taken place in Rio since the 1970s, the first legendary Rock in Rio Festival in 1985, and today, a period in which the country has gone from being an oppressive military dictatorship to progressive democracies on the planet.
This is London is commissioned by BBC Arts to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games will be produced by Temple and Rosa Bosch (Buena Vista Social Club).
The film tells the story of a metropolis that no longer exists and of the new London that has taken its place.
The Ealing Metro/Temple/F&ME/B&W Films deals comes as Film London and Rio Filme – the Rio Film Commission - get ready to announce a City to City Film Agreement on Monday here at the Festival de Cannes.
“Since visiting Rio with the Sex Pistols for The Great Rock and Roll Swindle in the late 1970s I’ve always wanted to make a film about the city and now as it finally prepares to take its rightful place on the world stage that time has finally come,” said Temple. “At a time when the world will be focusing on London for the Olympic Games, the chance to make a film about the London I knew and the new city that has taken its place is an exciting and challenging prospect for any film maker.
Partnering with F&ME and Ealing Metro International in Brazil is TV Zero, one of Brazil’s leading producers of documentaries.
