Exhale, directed by Forest Whitaker, was an adaption of a Terry McMillan novel and starred Angela Bassett, Whitney Houston, and Loretta Devine and tracked four black women and their relationships.
McMillan wrote the initial draft for the sequel, based on his book, and Lori Laken Hutcherson previously worked on the script.
Happy will only make a busy Elliot even busier. He is currently rewriting the romance-adventure script, Guarding Cole, for Disney Channel and producer Debra Martin Chase as well as rewriting Looking for Jimmy Lee, a romantic comedy that will mark the directorial debut of actor Boris Kodjoe, for BET.
Elliot is also currently writing and exec producing a contemporary re-imagining of the opera Faust as a hip-hop musical for MTV and producer Maggie Malina.
Elliot is a former writer for hip-hop magazine The Source who broke into the movie business with scripts for Fox’s Like Mike, Brown Sugar and Carmen: A Hip-Hopera.
He won the 2011 NAACP Image Award for outstanding writing in a motion picture for Fox Searchlight's Just Wright which starred Queen Latifah, Common and Paula Patton.
Elliot is repped by WME and Jackoway Tyerman.
