Justin Bieber, Drake, Avril Lavigne and Feist Pick Up Juno Nominations

TORONTO Canada’s next Arcade Fire could be crowned at the 2012 Juno Awards as Canadian indie artists will clash with major label talent in a wide open field unveiled Tuesday for the country’s music awards.

City and Colour, a one man croon project by Dallas Green, folk-rock singer Dan Mangan, rap sensation Drake, Feist, and rockers Hedley and Nickelback each pulled in four nominations for the Junos race.

Other multiple nominees include Avril Lavigne, Deadmau5 and crooner Michael Buble’ with three nods apiece.

More do-it-yourself indie acts competing at this year’s Junos could set the stage for a repeat of the 2011 Grammys, where Canadian indie rockers Arcade Fire upstaged pop stars Eminem, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry to take the album of the year crown with The Suburbs.

Among the snubs and surprises Tuesday was Canada’s Justin Bieber grabbing only two nominations, one for the Junos fan choice award and another for album of the year for Under the Mistletoe.

Bieber competed at last year's Junos in four categories, including best album of the year, best pop album of the year and best artist of the year.

He came away from the 2011 Junos with the fan choice award and best pop album trophies.

Also facing off with Beiber this year in the Junos fan choice award competition is Drake, Buble’, Lavigne, Arcade Fire and Nickelback.

And the album of the year competition will see Drake contend with Take Care, Buble’ with his Xmas album Christmas and Lavigne with Goodbye Lullabye.

City and Colour’s nominations included fan choice award, artist of the year and single of the year.

And Dan Mangan, a new face at the Junos this year, will contend in the new artist of the year and best songwriter of the year.

The international album of the year competition, based on Canadian retail record sales, will see Adele, Lady Gaga and Rihanna go up with their latest albums against the latest from Coldplay and LMFAO.

Canadian performing icon William Shatner will host the Junos, to air live on April 1 from Ottawa on the CTV network.

Scheduled performers unveiled by CTV include Drake, Feist, Deadmau5, Nickelback and City and Colour.

Bieber could yet show up on the Junos stage on April 1 as the homegrown sensation has been known to make last-minute appearances at Canadian award shows.
