Justin Lin's Short-Film Contest Announces Jury, Top 15 Finalists (Exclusive)
Danny Pudi and 'Star Trek Beyond' co-writer Doug Jung will help select the winners, to be revealed on Oct. 19.
Justin Lin's short-film contest has revealed its top 15 finalists and its judging panel, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.
Joining the Star Trek Beyond director on the jury is the film's co-writer Doug Jung as well as actors Danny Pudi (Community, Powerless) and Jadyn Wong (Scorpion) and NBC Entertainment and Universal Television Studios senior vp of programming talent development and inclusion Karen Horne. Comcast and NBCUniversal are lead sponsors of the Interpretations Initiative, whose name is a nod to the competition's premise: All shorts must stick to the same four-line script, penned this year by Tony-winning playwright David Henry Hwang.
The competition, now in its second iteration, is run by Lin's Asian-American entertainment organization You Offend Me You Offend My Family (YOMYOMF). Lin will mentor the ultimate three winners, who will have the chance to direct a YOMYOMF-produced project on a Comcast, NBCUniversal or equivalent platform.
A screening committee narrowed the initial field of 160 submissions to 15 finalists. The winners will be announced on Oct. 19 at the NBCUniversal Short Film Festival at the DGA, with two selected by the five-person jury and one voted on by the audience.
