Kaneshiro knocked from Horse

Taiwan-born actor only carries Japanese citizenship

TAIPEI -- Chinese-Japanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro ("The Warlords") was disqualified for the Golden Horse awards late Thursday after the judges learned of his nationality.

Nominated by the Golden Horse Award executive committee, the Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year honor can be bestowed upon anyone involved in a film's production. However, Kaneshiro, born in Taiwan to a Japanese father and Taiwanese mother, holds only citizenship from Japan.

The remaining two nominees for the outstanding filmmaker nod, "Cape No. 7" director Wei Te-Sheng and gaffer Li Lung-Yu, will now compete head-to-head at the Golden Horse Awards on Dec. 6.
