Kanye West Is Back for More: Yeezy Returning to NYFW for Season 5
Here we go.
Y'all ready for this.
After his Season 4 presentation on Roosevelt Island was almost unaminously panned — not just by critics citing lackluster clothes, but also by attendees who were forced to stand and wait in the midday heat for hours in the midst of the busiest week of the year — Kanye West is returning to New York Fashion Week.
Vogue reported Tuesday that Yeezy Season 5 is scheduled for the second-to-last day of Fashion Week, Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 5 p.m. — the time slot currently occupied by Marchesa.
Following the disastrous show (during which some models fainted from the heat and fell to the ground in teetering footwear, with one frustrated model even casting her shoes aside mid-catwalk), West and his family underwent a period of immense stress: Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in Paris, and West canceled and cut short several of his shows on his Life of Pablo tour and was later hospitalized following a reported mental breakdown.
It was initially unclear if West would even have a collection to present this February. Kardashian, however, gave fans hope by teasing a Calabasas-inspired Adidas track pant on Instagram a few weeks back. For his part, West has not been on Instagram since his 100-image posting spree a few months ago.
With all this in mind, we wouldn't be surprised to see a scaled-back, simpler approach to Season 5, especially given that the presentation will take place at Pier 59 at Chelsea Piers, a more traditional Fashion Week venue (and one that doesn't require special buses and a ferry ride to reach it). It should be a quieter affair than the Yeezy Season 3 extravaganza, too, which took place last February at Madison Square Garden and helped escalate the eventization of fashion shows.
Adidas did not immediately return The Hollywood Reporter's request for comment regarding the show.
