Kara Dioguardi To Star in Broadway's 'Chicago'

The former 'American Idol' judge will make her debut on the Great White Way this fall.
Songwriter Kara DioGuardi is set to join the ranks of other American Idol alums who've found a home on Broadway. The former Idol judge (she sat behind the desk for the 2009 and 2010 seasons) will be playing Roxie Hart in Chicago this September, she announced on Live! with Regis and Kelly Friday.
DioGuardi, who is currently judging on Bravo's songwriting show, Platinum Hit, will take on the role for an eight-week limited engagement starting September 5 and running through October 30 at the Ambassador Theater in New York City.
The musician also recently announced she is developing a docu-series about her life with Bravo, titled KARA. “People have one perception of DioGuardi, but this series will peek behind the curtain and reveal much more interesting and multi-faceted aspects of this incredibly successful, talented artist and business woman” Bravo vp of development Eli Lehrer said.
DioGuardi's post-Idol move to the stage is nothing new. Season 4's Constantine Maroulis has been starring in Rock of Ages since 2009. Fantasia Barrino, Idol's Season 3 champ, played Celie in The Color Purple, while Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks took a turn as the Teen Angel in Grease. Frenchie Davis (who is currently competing on NBC's The Voice), stared in Rent for a time, and Clay Aiken even tried out his acting chops as Sir Robin in the now-closed Spamalot.
