Karl Lagerfeld Enters Hotel Business

Karl Lagerfeld is checking into the hospitality business.

The 83-year-old designer has signed a licensing deal with Amsterdam-based Brandmark Collective to start an international hospitality brand called Karl Lagerfeld Hotel and Resorts, WWD reports. Under the Karl Lagerfeld Hospitality enterprise, the Kaiser will lend his creative eye in building a number of properties, including hotels, restaurants, clubs and residential real estate, according to the fashion trade.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Karl Lagerfeld and Brandmark Collective for additional comment.

The Chanel creative director's interest in the hotel biz has been growing in the last few years. He has signed on to design hotel suites in Paris and the lobbies at The Estates at Acqualina in Miami.

Lagerfeld joins a growing list of luxury fashion houses — Versace and Giorgio Armani included — to expand their portfolios to include hotels. Palazzo Versace has already opened in Australia's Gold Coast and Dubai, and the Macau location is expected to open in 2017. Armani Hotels have opened in Dubai and Milan.

The Kaiser has been staying busy as usual, showcasing Chanel's spring 2017 collection during Paris Fashion Week and partnering with Faber-Castell on a $3,000 colored pencil set.
