Karlovy Vary Fest Backs New Distributor for Foreign Film Fare

Paolo Sorrentino's 'Youth'

The first release will be Paolo Sorrentino's 'Youth,' starring Harvey Keitel and Rachel Weisz.

Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF), in collaboration with Czech Television and local distributor Aerofilms, is launching a new distribution label, which is to be focused on films from around the world.

"Our aim is to help local distribution to bring more people to the cinema to see outstanding examples of art house films, said Karel Och, KVIFF's artistic director.

"We also plan to create events — similar to film festival premieres — to add to the attraction of the new distribution label," he went on to say.

Czech Television's role will be in the selection of most interesting television films that will be subsequently offered for special screenings in cinemas.

All three partners will take part in marketing and PR campaigns, special screenings and co-financing the film copyright expenses, to enable the audience to see exceptional films outside mainstream distribution.

The new distribution label's first title will Paolo Sorrentino's Youth, starring Harvey Keitel and Rachel Weisz, which premiered at Cannes this past May and later collected the Audience Award at KVIFF.
