Karlovy Vary 2012: Hungarian Film Reinstated in Fest Competition
Director Sara Cserhalmi found post production coin to finish her feature debut, "Dear Betrayed Friends," after organizers pulled the world premiere from the festival.
Sara Cserhalmi's feature debut Dear Betrayed Friends has been reinstated into the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival's East of the West competition after being pulled on June 15 when post production funds ran out.
The cancellation of the world premiere sparked a public debate in Hungary, where many film productions have experienced financial problems due to the unsettled state of the local film industry.

That instability follows Hungary’s state funding body, the Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary (MMKA), last year being defunded by the national government.
The film's producer, Ferenc Pusztai of KMH Film, told THR that Origo Film Group had stepped in to provide in-kind post-production services to help the filmmakers complete their film in time to screen at Karlovy Vary.
“We are delighted to confirm the return of Sara’s exciting debut to the East of the West competition," KVIFF’s artistic director Karel Och said in a statement Friday.
Cserhalmi and Miklos Palzs co-wrote the script for the psychological drama, which stars Janos Derzsi, Gyorgy Cserhalmi and Zoltan Schneider.
Dear Betrayed Friends, Hungary’s entry into the competition, will premiere at KVIFF on July 5.
