Scribe Kenneth Lonergan is celebrating Father's Day with Ashton Kutcher and his Katalyst Films production shingle.

Lonergan ("Gangs of New York") has signed to write the screenplay for "Father's Day," a comedy that Kutcher and his partner Jason Goldberg are producing for Columbia.

The film is a multigenerational look at fatherhood that revolves around a father and son who don't get along but coincidentally have baby sons at the same time. The births result in them being forced to go through the fatherhood experience together.

Lonergan is penning the script based on a pitch by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson.

Sony's Andrea Giannetti and Adam Milano are overseeing for the studio.

Lonergan earned an Oscar nomination for writing the 2000 film "You Can Count on Me," which he also directed. He also was nominated for an original screenplay Oscar for "Gangs."

He recently wrote and directed "Margaret" for Fox Searchlight.

Lonergan is repped by CAA. (partialdiff)
