Kate Gosselin Fired From CouponCabin Blogging Job
The controversial reality TV mom gets the pink slip, with CEO Scott Kluth calling her "simply not a good fit with the wonderful team and culture" at the website.
Kate Gosselin's days as a couponing blogger are over.
The reality mom, who rose to fame on the TLC docu-series Jon & Kate Plus 8 before bitterly divorcing ex-husband Jon Gosselin, had parlayed her notoriety into a gig as a featured columnist doling money-saving advice on CouponCabin.com.
It didn't last long: in a new letter posted on the website, CEO Scott Kluth revealed he's fired Gosselin after less than a year in the position.
"A series of recent events have made it clear to me that Kate Gosselin and her contributions do not align with the authenticity which we set out to build almost a decade ago, and that Ms. Gosselin is simply not a good fit with the wonderful team and culture at CouponCabin," said Kluth of his decision to discontinue her blog.
"Ms. Gosselin’s contributions garnered both positive attention and criticism, but as always, I respect and appreciate your candid opinions, which often encourage us not to lose sight of our mission — to help YOU save money. We wish Kate, her family and her support staff all the best," he continued.
Gosselin's blog posts remain archived on the site, the most recent post published Monday (headline: "Kate Says: Do It Yourself and Save!") in which she wrote that she learned to cut costs on home repairs through bypassing professional help, and yes, doing it herself -- with tools from Loew's and Home Depot.
"I certainly cannot fix everything, but just this week alone, I’ve managed to repair a hand towel rack, a shower curtain rod that was sagging, a toilet handle that had broken AND I put oil in my car – all without the use of a handyman," she said.
(One commenter noted: "Kate has been in New York for nearly a week. Just when did she manage to do all those things if she was away from home for MOST of the week?")
Reader reaction to Kluth's note, meanwhile, is largely anti-Gosselin.
"It is about time. There was not ONE GOOD COUPON tip she EVER contributed to this ... site. People aren't reading this blog to read how tough she has it with 8 kids," commented one critic.
A sampling of other comments:
--"Finally! Her useless tips and self-adulation were annoying and promoted nothing. Sorry you wasted a year of your time and money on this fraud."
--"As a neutral person, I felt that Kate had her own agenda for accepting that position. She does not care about her fans or whether or not she is saving them money with good advice. She took that position with the hopes of keeping herself in the spotlight. That is what it is always about.....KATE!!!I often felt that her advice was repetitious and not helpful at all."
--"Kate wasn't doing anything for your company except using it for her own personal promotion and doing a bad job at that. Thank you Scott for finally seeing the light! Make sure to do a 'cleanse' on your whole office to get rid of the bad energy that was Kate Gosselin."
As for Gosselin, she seems to be handling the news well (especially given public approval over her firing).
"Good afternoon! I'm alive! I've been super busy working away! I'm having lots of fun and can't wait to share! No worries..we will chat soon!" she tweeted Tuesday.
