Kate Gosselin on 'Kate Plus 8's' Cancelation: 'I'm Freaking Out'

After watching TLC’s second to the last episode of Kate Plus 8, one gets the feeling that everyone from Kate Gosselin’s babysitter to the show’s crew is ready for the series to end. But, it seems that Gosselin isn’t so keen on the idea.

"I'm freaking out. Big time," she tells People magazine.

Gosselin recently said on the show that the reality series was a blessing for her and her eight children. The former nurse says they’ve been able to do things she didn’t see possible while she was pregnant with the now seven-year-old sextuplets. So, now as the show approaches its series finale next week, she says the kids aren’t ready and she’s facing something she has never had to deal with before: Involuntary unemployment.

"Nobody was [ready]," she says. "I've never quit a job in my life without having something else lined up. I don't know what's next."

Gosselin, who competed last year on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and has written three New York Times bestselling nonfiction books, has said that if the show were to end, she’d like to continue working in media somehow. And if that fell through, she’d return to nursing.

Now, as the prospect of taking care of her family without TLC’s paycheck looms closer, she says she’ll do whatever she can to keep up her children’s standard of living.

"I told them I will work my fingers to the bone to make sure that they can stay here and go to their school," she says. "There are no guarantees in life for anyone, but they know that I'm giving it my best shot."

She isn’t totally going to do it alone – at least financially. Kate’s infamous ex-husband, Jon Gosselin (who she divorced in 2009), does help out with child support and reportedly takes the kids for two weekends a month.

The series finale of Kate Plus 8 airs Sept. 12 on TLC.
