Kate Winslet, Gary Barlow on Queen Elizabeth II's Latest Honors List
Kenneth Branagh and Josh Berger, president of Warner Bros. Entertainment U.K., are also among entertainment heavy hitters on the list.
Kate Winslet, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Barlow and Josh Berger, president and managing director of Warner Bros. Entertainment U.K., are among the big entertainment industry names making Queen Elizabeth II's latest honors list.
Winslet is being honored as Knights Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) for services in the drama field.
Branagh is getting a Knights Bachelor knighthood for services to drama and to the community in Northern Ireland.
Take That star Barlow, who also serves as a judge on the U.K. version of The X Factor, received one of the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) honors. He got it for services to the entertainment industry and to charity.
Berger, the American head of the Time Warner studio's U.K. operation, was awarded the title of a Commander of the British Empire, or CBE, for his "services to the creative industries."
The Queen traditionally announces honors following her official birthday celebration, which took place during the weekend, and at the start of the new year. Her actual birthday is April 21.
The honors list focuses on "people from all walks of life and all sections of society who have made a difference to their community," according to a British government website. "The British honors system is one of the oldest in the world. It has evolved over 650 years as the country has found alternative means of recognizing merit, gallantry and service." Other honors include such titles as knight and dame.
Other entertainment industry representatives on the latest honors list are Caroline Norbury, CEO of Creative England, who was an honoree on the Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) list, and writer-producer-director Armando Iannucci, who received an OBE.
