Kathy Bates Reveals Breast Cancer Battle, Undergoes Double Mastectomy
The 64-year-old actress will not need radiation or chemo following the procedure.
Kathy Bates has revealed yet another cancer scare.
The actress, 64, says she was diagnosed with breast cancer several weeks ago and has since undergone a double mastectomy. This is the Academy Award-winner’s second battle with cancer, having survived ovarian cancer nine years ago.
"After much consideration, I underwent a double mastectomy," Bates said in a statement, first obtained by People. "Luckily, I don't have to undergo radiation or chemo. My family call me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception."

The actress, whose NBC drama Harry’s Law was canceled earlier this year, is staying positive about the future.
"My doctors have assured me I'm going to be around for a long time," she added. "I'm looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do."
Bates is expected to attend the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 23, where she is nominated for two statues. Bates is up for lead actress in a drama for Harry’s Law, and for outstanding guest actress in a comedy for her turn as Charlie Harper’s ghost on Two and a Half Men.
