The acclaimed drama has seven nominations, while four others have six each.

The steam behind Ken Loach's acclaimed drama I, Daniel Blake doesn't look like letting up anytime soon.

The Palme d'Or winner, which scored the director's biggest U.K. opening last week, has now emerged ahead of the pack in this year's British Independent Film Awards.

The emotional drama, which lifts the lid on the real-life struggles of those attempting to navigate the painful bureaucracy of Britain's benefit system, has earned seven nominations — including for best British independent film, best director, best screenplay, best actor and best actress — it was announced Tuesday.

Hot on I, Daniel Blake's tails are four other films with six nominations, including American Honey, Adult Life Skills, Notes on Blindness and Under the Shadow.
