Kerry Washington's Hairstylist Dishes on Her Oscars Ponytail
Takisha Sturdivant Drew opted for a "youthful yet edgy" 'do.
Presenter Kerry Washington is no stranger to risky fashion (remember the midriff-baring Prada ensemble worn while pregnant? Or the fresh off the runway silver Marc Jacobs frock last year?), so the entirely edgy Versace dress worn tonight felt right on par and her beauty look followed suit.
"My inspiration was her warrior-meets-princess Versace dress. So I decided to give her a bold youthful yet edgy ponytail," says Washington's long time hairstylist Takisha Sturdivant Drew.
The hairstyle was a first for Washington on the red carpet, according to Drew who adds that she’s never put the actress' hair up for the Oscars, and specifically never in a ponytail.
"The key products I can't live without are the Neutrogena anti residue shampoo and deep recovery mask conditioner," says the hairstylist. "I also love the ghd professional air hairdryer and most of all the ghd platinum flat iron because it's made to keep the hair healthy. It's also great if you have color."
To get the punky ponytail, Drew blew out the hair with the ghd air hairdryer and a paddle brush to get volume at the roots. Once the hair was dry, she used the ghd platinum styler to make the hair shiny.
She clipped TSD Hair Extensions to the center of the head and teased the root to add drama.
Drew finished by taking the hair and securing a ponytail in place with a leather Versace band (natch).
