Kevin Smith: Another Airport Feud After Missing Virgin Flight
Director blogs that he and his wife were not permitted to board scheduled flight despite arriving at gate with time to spare.
Kevin Smith landed in another airport ordeal Monday, taking to his blog to blast Virgin America for, he says, making him and his actress wife, Jennifer Schwalbach-Smith, miss their flight despite arriving at the gate with minutes to spare before departure.
This marks the second public feud the actor-director has had with an airline this year, following a well-publicized spat in February with Southwest after the airline removed him from a flight because his oversized build did not fit comfortably into his seat.
This time around, reports The Huffington Post, Smith addressed the situation on his Silent Bob Speaks website in a post titled "Virgin shuts its legs, I shut my wallet," lamenting that a Virgin America employee at JFK refused to let the couple board despite Smith claiming that they arrived at the gate eight minutes before departure time, and noting that the jetway was still attached to the plane.
"Flying as much as I do... I know that the jetway only gets pulled back ONCE THE PLANE DOOR IS SECURELY CLOSED," Smith wrote. "The plane wouldn't pull back from the gate for another 15 minutes," he added, offering a time-stamped photo he took with his cell phone as proof.
Smith's unfortunate situation, however, was resolved almost as quickly as it started, with the Cop Out director, who grabbed another flight, later blogging: "Unlike Southworst, @VirginAtlantic seems to care: lovely, apologetic email, full refund for flight, free tix offer -- all before I've landed. I appreciate the gesture/effort."
