'Minions,' 'Steve Jobs' Campaigns Win at Key Art Awards

'Black-ish' star Anthony Anderson hosted the gathering of Hollywood's prominent marketing teams at the CLIO Key Art Awards partnered with The Hollywood Reporter.

Behind every one of your favorite movie posters, buzzworthy trailers or contests involving your favorite movie star is the marketing team with the brain power to make it happen. 

The successful communications teams behind such films as Minions, Taken 3 and Steve Jobs were honored Thursday night for Hollywood advertising's most prestigious honors, the Key Art Awards. Black-ish star Anthony Anderson hosted the CLIO Key Art Awards partnered with The Hollywood Reporter at the Dolby Theater, home of the Oscars. Over 1200 people attended the event.

"Who the f— is responsible for me and my family looking like a calypso band on the Blackish posters?" joked Anderson onstage. "Who did that key art?"

The ceremony was filled with montages featuring the most climatic moments from Mad Max, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World. Steve Jobs, however, took home the top prize for a theatrical trailer. 

"We're in an age when a trailer gets its own public release date and sometimes a teaser," said Anderson. 

"We work with so many people in this room, and we've sucked your neurons and raped your souls. You've missed time with your family that can never be recovered. We're just so grateful for that," joked Stephanie Gibbons, executive vp marketing and on-air for FX Networks, while receiving the honor for TV network of the year.

Winners took home coveted trophies this year, a first for the awards.

"This is an industry that continues to evolve, as every year the newest ideas and techniques are introduced," said Nicole Purcell, president of CLIO. "At CLIO Key Art we continue diversifying this competition by showcasing the best work across a growing list of specialties. This year’s class was no different, and we extend a congratulations to all the teams that took home trophies ... for their innovative work."
