Lee Cleary is directing the love story, which is being shopped by Little Film Company in Cannes.
Kiefer Sutherland and Kate Bosworth will meet cute in Fairytale of New York, to be directed by Lee Cleary.
In the love story, Sutherland will play an Irish standup comic who meets an American woman played by Bosworth in a New York art gallery while on tour.
Jeff Murphy wrote the screenplay, which then follows the characters over the course of their growing romantic relationship.
Lisa Katselas and Dan Reardon are producing the project, which will film in Northern Ireland and New York.
“Fairytale of New York lets us observe what most of us hope for in a relationship and then it takes us further, much further,” said Katselas. “To achieve this we needed to find amazing actors with a magical connection and we have in Kiefer and Kate. They will light up the screen.”
The Little Film Company is handling sales for Fairytale at the Marche du Film. The company also has Beneath the Darkness in the market.
Repped by CAA and Management 360, Sutherland recently did voice work in the features Marmaduke, Twelve and Monsters vs Aliens. He stars in Lars von Trier’s apocalyptic drama Melancholia, which will have its gala premiere at the Festival de Cannes Wednesday night.
Bosworth, who is repped by WME and One Talent Management, most recently starred in The Warrior’s Way and the Sundance dramas Little Birds and Another Happy Day, both of which were picked up for U.S. distribution in the past week. She next stars in the Screen Gems remake of Straw Dogs, which hits theaters in September.
