Kim Kardashian-Kris Humphries Breakup Boosts Entertainment News Show Ratings
"Access Hollywood" and "Entertainment Tonight" were among the television programs seeing increases.
Whether or not Kim Kardashian’s brief marriage to Kris Humphries was a publicity stunt to pump up her reality show ratings or the heartbreaker she claims, the break-up clearly served provided a ratings tonic for most of the high profile TV magazine shows.
Extra hit a new season high rating of 1.8, which was up 20 percent from the prior week, which as the largest increase of any of the syndicated strips that appear in access (late afternoon, early evening). It also got an extra boost in the key group of viewers 25 to 54 years of age, soaring 33 percent from the prior week.
Entertainment Tonight, which regularly rates highest among the daily magazine shows, enjoyed a 3 percent increase to a 3.9 rating, which matched its highest numbers for the season to date. That followed a 13 percent gain on Monday, Oct. 31, the day Kardashian filed for divorce.
Inside Edition had a 7 percent increase last week compared to the prior week, to a 3.1 national rating. That helped it rebound from a season low the week before Kardashian’s marriage fouled out on day 72.
Access Hollywood saw an 11 percent increase to a 2.1 rating last week. That was a new season high for the show.
Access Hollywood Live, measured in 16-metered markets, was up 13 percent from the prior week and popped up 40% in the key demo of women 25 to 54 years of age.
TMZ was up a peppy 17 percent week to week to a 2.1 rating, which was a new season high.
Only Entertainment Tonight’s stable mate The Insider failed to gain much from Kim K’s busted relationship. The Insider held stead at a 1.7 rating, but that was already at a season high level.
