'Real Housewives' Star Kim Richards Charged With Public Intoxication, Battery on a Police Officer
Richards also faces a charge of resisting arrest.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards has been charged with public intoxication and battery on a police officer following her April arrest.
According to the L.A. County District Attorney's Office, Richards also faces a charge of resisting arrest. All three charges are misdemeanors. She is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
Richards was arrested on April 16 after allegedly refusing to leave the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. According to the D.A., Richards later kicked an officer at the police station.
Following her arrest, Richards took full responsibility for the events that transpired, telling Dr. Phil, "The whole night is my fault. None of this would have happened if I didn’t drink."
Richards has struggled with sobriety, checking into rehab in December 2011 to work on her substance abuse issues. Her alleged substance abuse has been a plot point on her reality show. This past February, Richards wrote about a recent episode that touched on her sobriety after she took pain medication prescribed to her husband.
"I wish people would just stop trying to intrude in my life and 'fix' a problem that doesn't exist," she wrote in a blog entry. "Would it break their hearts terribly to know and accept that I am healthy and well?"
She added, "Sometimes, I choose to sit out because I am TIRED of the drama and just want to focus on my life, my family, and my sobriety, which is like a full-time job. I am grateful to be here today, but you never forget the dark once you've been there. It's precisely this feeling of vulnerability that drives me to do better and stay sober every day."
