Gabriel Mascaro's Brazilian rodeo drama won this year's special jury prize in Venice.

Kino Lorber have acquired Gabriel Mascaro’s Neon Bull for North America, picking up the Brazilian rodeo drama ahead of its TIFF screening on Friday.

Mascaro's sophomore feature is set in Northeast Brazil on the Vaquejadas circuit, a Brazilian-style rodeo in which two men on horseback try to bring down a bull by its tail. The film follows Iremar (played by Juliano Cazarre), a rodeo cowboy who secretly dreams of a career in fashion design.

Neon Bull premiered at the Venice film festival, where it won the special jury prize of the Horizsons (Orizzonti) sidebar.

The deal was negotiated between Kino Lorber CEO Richard Lorber and Tanja Meissner of Memento Films International, who are handling international sales for the project.

Kino Lorber is planning a theatrical release for Neon Bull in the first half of 2016 followed by a VOD/home media rollout.
