Kinowelt checks out Cine-International library

COLOGNE, Germany -- Kinowelt International has acquired the library of insolvent German rights handler Cine-International.

The Cine-International back catalog includes such European art house titles as Rudolf Thome's "Red and Blue" (2003), Josef Vilsmaier's "Autumn Milk" (1989), Werner Herzog's "Scream of Stone" (1991) and Liv Ullmann's "Kristin Lavransdatter" (1995).

The library is a perfect fit for Kinowelt, whose catalog already includes well-known art house titles from New German Cinema directors including Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Volker Schlondorff and Margarethe von Trotta.

The Cine-International acquisition comes on the heels of a similar deal by Kinowelt earlier this year, acquiring the back catalog of defunct production/financing group Bioskop Film (HR 5/15).
