KNBC traffic reporter Paul Johnson dies

Appeared in 'Paint Your Wagon,' numerous commercials

Paul Johnson, a traffic reporter and weatherman for KNBC-TV in Los Angeles for more than two decades, died Tuesday after a battle with a brain tumor. He was 75.

Johnson underwent brain surgery in January and remained off the air while recovering. He had worked at the NBC owned-and-operated station since August 1988.

Johnson joined Metro Traffic in August 1982 and before that spent more than eight years with Capital Cities, leaving a position as program director for WJR-FM in Detroit. He also reported traffic conditions for Los Angeles radio stations KNX, KZLA, KACE, KXEZ and KSRF.

The baritone-voiced Johnson also worked in radio as a news reporter and on-air personality. He appeared in the 1969 film "Paint Your Wagon," on stage in several opera productions and in numerous commercials.
