Korea's Finecut Sells 'Poongsan' and 'Leafie'
'Poongsan' was written and produced by Kim Ki-duk.
HONG KONG -- Korean animated feature Leafie and the Kim Ki-duk-produced Poongsan reaped a fine harvest for Seoul-based sales agent Finecut at the Asian Film Market in Busan and MIPCOM in Cannes.
Leafie, the highest-grossing domestically-made animated feature of all time in Korea with 2.2 million domestic admissions, was sold to Portugal’s Lanterna de Pedra Filmes Unipessoal, Russia’s CP Digital (excluding Baltic States), and Indonesia’s Pratama Film. The animation was recently released in China by Dadi.
Japan’s Asia Films picked up Poongsan, written and produced by Kim Ki-duk, directed by Juhn Jaihong, and an in-competition selection in the upcoming Tokyo Filmex, and the fantasy thriller Hansel and Gretel. Poongsan had been previously sold to Pretty Pictures for French-speaking territories.
Finecut also cut deals with Japan’s Crest International for the Berlin Golden Bear winning short Night Fishing, co-directed by Park Chan-wook and Park Chan-kyong under their directorial label “PARKing CHANce,” and Hello Ghost to Japan’s Twin.
Other Finecut titles including Blind, The Cat, and Unstoppable Family were sold to Taiwan’s Eagle International at the Asian Film Market.
