Kris Jenner’s Talk Show Test Starts July 15
The reality star's one-hour program runs for six weeks on select Fox stations -- if it attracts an audience, Jenner could launch in national syndication.
Kris Jenner’s talk show is set to premiere July 15. Twentieth Television announced Thursday that the six-week test run will air on Fox-owned stations in New York, Los Angeles and elsewhere.
Additionally, Robert Lifton has been named executive producer of the daily one-hour show, which is being called Kris. Produced in Los Angeles, Kris will be “pop culture-driven,” according to the announcement. It will include celebrity guests, fashion and beauty trends and other lifestyle topics.
Lifton is a veteran TV producer whose credits include the E! Entertainment show Daily 10, the Best Damn Sports Show Period on Fox’s sports network and Bravo's soon-to-launch Property Envy. He also has done projects for ESPN SportsCenter, The Sundance Channel, Versus Network and Access Hollywood.
“With a background that spans both entertainment and sports television, Robert is the ideal choice to oversee the launch of Kris,” says Stephen Brown, senior vp programing and development at Twentieth Television. “His expertise with pop culture and celebrities and his background in entertainment sports television will bring a high-octane pace and energy to each episode of Kris.”
Adds Jenner: "With Robert’s energy and the experience that he brings to the table, I am beyond excited to begin this new chapter. I am so happy he is on this journey with me, as I feel like I’m in good hands.”
Jenner, best known as the mom to six children in the Jenner-Kardashian clan, becomes the latest celebrity to take advantage of Fox’s willingness to test out talk shows. The most recent, Bethenny Frankel, was successful enough in her summer tryout that her show is set to bow in national syndication in the summer.
Not every show that Fox has tested has gone on to become a series. It was how Wendy Williams got her start as a talk-show host, but a program starring Fran Drescher never got off the ground after her show was tested. If Kris can attract a large enough audience, it is expected to lead to the launch of a nationally syndicated talk show as soon as fall 2014, which would be produced by Twentieth TV.
Jenner is a producer on the hit reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. She also published a memoir, Kris Jenner … And All Things Kardashian, which was on The New York Times best-seller list. She also is a motivational speaker.
“Kris has an incredible ability to connect with television viewers, demonstrates a wide range of interests and can successfully embrace light fare and conversation,” notes Lifton. “She has a fantastic chance to be a true breakout personality in the daytime television space."
