Kristen Wiig, Alexander Skarsgard Join 'The Diary of a Teenage Girl'

British actress Bel Powley will make her American debut as the lead in the coming-of-age film.

British actress Bel Powley, Kristen Wiig and Alexander Skarsgard have joined coming-of-age film The Diary of a Teenage Girl.

Marielle Heller, who wrote the script, will make her directorial debut with the project. Heller went through both the Sundance Institute Directors and Screenwriters Labs with the project.

The script is based on Phoebe Gloeckner's graphic novel of the same name and follows a teen artist (Powley) living in San Francisco in the '70s who attempts to navigate her way through an affair with her mother's boyfriend. The film is currently shooting in San Francisco.

Bert Hamelinck and Madeline Samit of Caviar will produce along with Miranda Bailey of Cold Iron and Anne Carey of Archer Gray. Amanda Marshall of Cold Iron and Michael Sagol of Caviar will serve as executive producers along with Jorma Taccone.

UTA will handle domestic sales of the film while K5 International will handle foreign sales.

Powley is making her American film debut in the feature. She's best known for her theater roles, including her roles in the Royal Court Theatre's West End production of Tusk Tusk, Tom Stoppard's Arcadia on Broadway, and the recent Royal Court Theatre and West End production of Jumpy. She's repped by Brantley Brown Schachter Entertainment.

Wiig was most recently seen in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. She's repped by UTA.

Skarsgard is known for playing vampire Eric Northman on HBO's True Blood and was most recently seen in the film The East and What Maisie Knew. He will next appear in the adaptation of The Giver. He's repped by CAA and Principal Entertainment LA.
