Former WWE Star Kurt Angle Returns to Ring for Wrestling Comedy (Exclusive)
'In the Ring' also will star wrestlers Mickie James and Tommy Dreamer.
Olympic gold-medal winner and ex-WWE and TNA wrestler Kurt Angle is about to add another title to his growing filmography.
The sportsman, who has had numerous minor roles in films such as Pain & Gain and The Last Witch Hunter, has joined upcoming pro-wrestling comedy In the Ring and is set to star alongside former WWE women's champion Mickie James and Extreme Championship Wrestling legend Tommy Dreamer.
Coming from upstart U.K. banner BoxFly Pictures, In the Ring is written by Tony Lee, who was announced last year as the writer of the Hollywood Gang's upcoming futuristic take on Robin Hood. In the Ring is based on a story by Lee and wrestlers Christopher Daniels and Frankie "Kaz" Kazarian.
The film is described as a "Major League-style 'underdog' comedy," in which a group of misfit wrestlers, led by Sledgehammer Sullivan (Angle), takes on a multinational corporation and a rival, "extreme" federation headed by Matt Manson (Dreamer) to gain a network-TV contract in a winner-takes-all pay-per-view.
With a cast of onscreen wrestlers made up primarily of actual TNA and Ring of Honor performers and former WWE stars, In the Ring also stars Daniels, Kazarian, John Morrison, Ken Anderson, Jay Lethal, Joey Ryan, Candice LeRae, Chavo Guerrero Jr., Kevin Kelly, Nick "Magnus" Aldis, Chad "Gunner" Lail, Dalton Castle and The Briscoe Brothers, with other wrestling names yet to be announced.
